Regarding the Next Stage of Fetal Development

Being 30 weeks pregnant means you are already in your 7th month, with only about 2 months left until delivery. At this stage, the fetus is approximately 40-41 cm long and weighs between 1.3 and 1.4 kg. The brain begins to grow rapidly. While the brain’s surface was previously smooth, grooves and indentations (convolutions) are now appearing, allowing the brain to increase in volume quickly and helping the fetus develop new skills, analytical abilities, and memory.

At this stage, body temperature is regulated by the brain and fat cells; consequently, the soft, fluffy hair (lanugo) covering the body is no longer needed and begins to shed. The bone marrow fully takes over the production of red blood cells (erythrocytes). This is a vital step for the fetus, signifying that it will be able to develop independently after birth. Their vision continues to develop. By this time, the baby’s hands are fully formed, and the fingernails are beginning to grow.
