Urine Bacteriological Test

Laboratory Supplies:

  • Sterile urine container (cup)
  • Yellow-cap urine collection container with syringe
  • Urine container with stabilizer (green cap)

Before collecting the sample, the urine container must be labeled with:

  • Patient’s first and last name
  • Date of birth
  • Date and time of urine collection

Collection Instructions:

  • Before urine collection, the patient should perform hygienic cleaning with running warm water, without soap.
  • It is recommended to collect the midstream portion of the urine.
  • Collect the urine in a sterile container.
  • Using the yellow-cap syringe container, draw approximately 10 ml of urine from the sterile container.
  • Hold the green-cap Monovette tube vertically with the cap facing upward. Open the cap, pull the plunger all the way back, and break it off.
  • Transfer the urine from the yellow-cap syringe into the green-cap Monovette tube, close the cap tightly, and gently mix.
  • Bring the sample to the laboratory.

Notes:

  • The sample should ideally be collected before starting antibiotic therapy. If the sample is taken for treatment monitoring, please inform the lab about the antibiotic therapy used.
  • The test is performed at Limbach Laboratory and Partners (Germany). Samples for urine bacteriological testing are sent to Germany only on Tuesdays. Therefore, the sample must be collected on the day of shipment.
