• For nutritional assessment, the patient should fast overnight (12–14 hours). For patients with a suspected fatty acid oxidation disorder, collect the specimen immediately before the next feeding, as fasting is contraindicated.
• The patient must not consume alcohol for 24 hours before specimen collection.
