Regarding the Next Stage of Fetal Development During Pregnancy

The 13th week of pregnancy, or the end of the third month — at this stage, all of your little one’s organs are fully formed and ready to function.

The kidneys begin producing and excreting urine into the amniotic fluid. The spleen is busy producing red blood cells, which distribute oxygen throughout the body.

Your baby’s intestines are moving into the abdominal cavity, as there is now enough space for them. Some of the larger bones, including those of the skull, are beginning to harden. The vocal cords are also starting to develop (the first step toward those first words!). At this time, your little one is about the size of a tulip! On average, they weigh 20 grams and are 8 cm long.

You are now entering the second trimester of pregnancy, which means most of the discomforts you’ve experienced so far are subsiding, and you will begin to feel more energetic.
